ALS Therapy Development Institute Open House 2025 – A Glimpse Inside the Lab

October 16, 20252 min read

The evening of October 16th, 2025, I had the pleasure of photographing the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) Open House in Watertown, Massachusetts. This was my second time covering this inspiring event, and once again, it was such a meaningful experience to witness the dedication and innovation happening behind the scenes at one of the world’s leading ALS research organizations.

A Closer Look at the Mission

The Open House is part of the ALS TDI Leadership Weekend — an annual opportunity for the community to visit the labs, meet the scientists, and learn more about the groundbreaking work being done to find effective treatments for ALS. Guests had the chance to explore the lab spaces, talk with researchers, and see firsthand how science, collaboration, and hope come together under one roof.

Capturing the Experience

Photographing this event was truly special. The energy in the room was a mix of curiosity, compassion, and commitment. My focus was on documenting:

The research environment — lab equipment, scientific demonstrations, and the precision of the work being done.

The people — scientists sharing their passion, families and supporters engaging in thoughtful conversations, and heartfelt moments of connection.

The atmosphere — warm lighting, inspiring displays, and a shared sense of purpose that could be felt in every corner.

Why I Love Photographing Events Like This

Events like the ALS TDI Open House remind me why I love being a photographer. It’s about much more than taking pictures — it’s about telling a story that celebrates progress, resilience, and the people driving change. Capturing this balance between science and humanity is both challenging and rewarding.

As a Boston-area event photographer, I always feel grateful to be invited into spaces where purpose and community meet. And for me, documenting the ALS TDI Open House for the second time felt like reconnecting with a story that continues to grow stronger each year.
